Bridges can serve as an alternative for tracks. Boulders can be removed by smoothing ( v- m) or constructing and removing a wall. Warning: If the map has an extremely large amount of trees (Heavily Forested) there may not be any way for the caravan to get to your depot, unless you chop down a path for the wagons.Īlso note that traps will block wagon access (although not merchants with pack animals), so you cannot easily use them to defend your depot.īoulders (the natural kind) and tracks also block wagons. If you are trying to constrain wagons to a certain path, only the desired path should be accessible. For a tile to be “Wagon accessible” it must be navigable between both the tile and the depot *and* the tile and the map edge. There is no visual indicator of wagon accessibility. 2.3 Only broker may trade or Anyone may trade.2.2 No trader needed at depot or Trader requested at depot.Graphically, the left side of the depot will show the visitor merchants' trade goods, while the right side shows items the player is setting up to trade. The visiting merchant(s) always stands at the upper side of the center table of the depot, while the player's broker stands at the opposide lower side. Should they be deconstructed, the depot itself generates an implied walkable floor. They can be built on top of constructed floors and walls, allowing you to make a trade depot which is elevated above the surrounding land. There must be at least 10 spaces between the depot and the edge of the map. the first material created or imported on your map, by chronological order. Three materials must be used to build the trade depot, with the oldest* material chosen serving as the main material to determine color and "material" as labeled the color is visible immediately upon confirming the construction order. Trade depots can be created from almost any building material. Please view the Bugs section for details.Ī trade depot is a building that allows you to engage in trading with the caravans that arrive at your fortress. Only drawback is that I have to constantly re-build my Trade Depot which is destroyed at each attack. This feature has one or more outstanding bugs. My current fortress is the richest I ever made. I was expecting the caravan guards to be much stronger and I thaught they were able to handle an ambush with ease. This is what happened : when a caravan comes, it has a 50% chance to be slaughtered by a goblin siege or ambush, leaving all their goods on the floor next to a splatter of blood. So I built a Trade Depot outside my fortress to be able to trade while I was thinking of a proper solution. I read a bit here and there about exploiting the path-finding AI but I hated the idea.

I recently started playing DF again after a 3 years break, so I was surprised that merchants now can't pass my 3-tile wide trapped corridor anymore. Maybe it's something many people do and there's nothing new here, but I experimented something and it gave great and unexpected results (as usual with DF).
